The Creation of Adam and Eve – His Wife
Hi, I’m Rose, and welcome to Torah Truth Life! I’m so glad you’ve joined me. Together, we’ll dive into captivating story readings, explore meaningful verses, and bring the Bible to life through short film stories. Most importantly, we’ll look at how these timeless scriptures apply to our everyday lives. Whether you’re here to deepen your understanding or to find inspiration, you’re in the right place.
Too many people reject the Torah or even grow angry with God because of misunderstanding. My role as your teacher is to help bring clarity. So please, feel free to ask questions as we journey together through Bible history and truth.
Today, we begin Lesson Three: What Really Happened in Eden? Creation, Marriage & the Original Commandments.
The Creation of Eve
Let’s read together:
Jubilees 3:2–5 (Genesis 2 parallel):
2. And the Lord said unto us: “It is not good that the man should be alone: let us make a helpmeet for him.”3. And the Lord our God caused a deep sleep to fall upon him, and he slept, and He took for the woman one rib from amongst his ribs, and this rib was the origin of the woman, and He built up the flesh in its stead, and built the woman.4. And He awaked Adam out of his sleep, and on awaking he rose on the sixth day, and He brought her to him, and he knew her, and said unto her: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called my wife, because she was taken from her husband.”5. Therefore shall man and wife be one, and a man shall leave his father and his mother, and cleave unto his wife, and they shall be one flesh.
Misconceptions About the Fruit
Many of us were taught that the “fruit” from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil was an apple, or that it symbolized sex. I, too, once heard from my pastor that when Eve gave Adam the apple, it meant they had engaged in sexual relations.
But let’s carefully examine scripture. Reading from the Cepher Bible, 3rd Edition, and the Book of Enoch 31:2–5, we see a very different description:
From there I passed on… and arrived at the garden of righteousness. In this garden I beheld, among other trees, some which were numerous and large, and which flourished there. Their fragrance was agreeable and powerful, and their appearance both varied and elegant. The tree of knowledge also was there, of which if anyone eats, he becomes endowed with great wisdom. It was like a species of the tamarind tree, bearing fruit which resembled grapes extremely fine; and its fragrance extended to a considerable distance. I exclaimed, “How beautiful is this tree, and how delightful its appearance!” Then holy Raphe’el, an angel who was with me, said, “This is the tree of knowledge, of which your ancient father and your aged mother ate, who were before you; and who, obtaining knowledge, their eyes being opened, and knowing themselves to be naked, were expelled from the garden.”
Notice—this is not an apple. It was a real fruit, resembling grapes, with nothing symbolic of sexual intimacy.
When Did Adam and Eve Become Intimate?
The scripture itself shows us.
Jubilees 3:4 (Genesis 2):
“And He awaked Adam out of his sleep… and He brought her to him, and he knew her, and said unto her: ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called my wife…’”
The phrase “he knew her” is the biblical way of describing sexual intimacy. This is the moment Adam and Eve became husband and wife—not through a ceremony or marriage license, but through consummation.
Here are more examples of this phrase in scripture:
Genesis 4:1 – “And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain…”
Genesis 4:17 – “And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch…”
Genesis 38:26 – “…And he knew her again no more.”
1 Samuel 1:19 – “…And Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her.”
So, biblically, intimacy—not paperwork—is what establishes husband and wife.
God’s Statutes Regarding Birth and Purity
Now let’s examine the commandments that came directly from these events in Eden:
Jubilees 3:6–12:
6. In the first week was Adam created, and the rib—his wife: in the second week He showed her unto him: and for this reason the commandment was given to keep in their defilement, for a male seven days, and for a female twice seven days.7. …But his wife they brought in on the eightieth day…8. And for this reason the commandment is written… “If she bears a male, she shall remain in her uncleanness seven days… and thirty-three days in the blood of her purifying…”9. “But if she bears a female child… she shall remain in her uncleanness two weeks… and sixty-six days in the blood of her purification, in all eighty days.”10–12. This became the law and testimony for Israel to observe all the days.
This connects directly with Leviticus 12—a statute given to Moses. In other words, the Torah did not begin at Sinai; it was present from creation itself. These laws and statutes are eternal ordinances, still binding today.
Final Reflection
From Eden onward, God established His order for creation, marriage, intimacy, and purity. The Torah is not just for one people or one time; it is for all who seek to walk closely with God and enter Messiah’s kingdom—Israelite or Gentile alike.
If we truly love God, we will keep His commandments.
Ecclesiastes 12:13
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
Be Blessed. Stay tuned for lesson Four.
